Welcome to Conservation in the Classroom, our suite of resources designed to make teaching conservation science simple, accessible, and applicable to all teachers in our Bitterroot Valley, and beyond!
Our lessons are NGSS aligned, scaffolded, and tie directly to the Bitterroot Valley our students call home. The topics and themes were developed in collaboration with local K-12th grade teachers in the Bitterroot Valley, Bitterroot Water Partnership, and The Montana Natural History Center. The lessons are designed to be adaptable to the specific needs of individual schools and districts, allowing educators to build upon their existing science curriculum. Teller provides ready-to-go lessons and borrowable lab materials at no cost to teachers. Teachers also have the option to have Teller's education manager lead the lessons in the classroom as a guest instructor.
Grades k-8 are each provided with three engaging lessons: a classroom-based lesson, an outdoor lesson designed to be taught on school property, and a field trip at Teller Wildlife Refuge. The classroom lesson prepares students with the foundational knowledge they need, the schoolyard lesson expands on that knowledge to a familiar daily outdoor location, and the Teller field experience offers hands-on, practical learning in a local outdoor setting. This three-part structure ensures a comprehensive and immersive learning experience that reinforces key conservation concepts.
